Aim and Scope

Synthetic Biology and Engineering (SBE) is an international, peer-reviewed and open access journal dealing with interdisciplinary research of synthetic biology, from living systems to industry translation. The journal not only focuses on the advances of synthetic biology and engineering tools and theories applied in molecular, cellular, and systems biology, but also emphasizes their applications in industrial biotechnology.

High-level original research articles, reviews, communications, commentaries, perspectives and research highlights are very welcome. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Synthetic biology in the manufacturing of chemicals and fuels
  • Synthetic biology in the manufacturing of foods and nutritional products
  • Synthetic biology in therapeutics and healthcare
  • Molecular biology and engineering tools in synthetic biology
  • Bioprocess engineering for manufacturing chemicals, fuels, food, and healthcare products
  • Industrial perspectives and new development trends in the biotechnology/biomanufacturing industry
  • Social responsibility and ethical boundaries of synthetic biology
