Aims & Scope

Hydroecology and Engineering (HEE) is an official publication of the Institute of Hydroecology, School of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering at Wuhan University.

The journal focuses on interdisciplinary research of the evolutionary processes of the earth’s ecosystem and its sustainability under the engineering interventions by human activities, including the performance and properties of ecological integrity, the intervention of engineering construction on ecosystem processes, the merge together of engineering and nature, the sustainability of the natural-engineering hybrid ecosystem, and the emerging technologies, such as AI and big data, which could improve the acknowledges of the sustainability of human society.

Along with the development of biology, ecology, hydrobiology, hydroecology, engineering, and their theoretical and applied research on aforementioned topics also drop in the scope of the journal.

HEE publishes research articles and reviews, communications, perspectives, and commentaries, covering topics including:

  • Ecological integrities: chemical, physical, and biological integrities
  • Water engineering for sustainable development: freshwater ecosystems, stream and river restoration
  • Developing sustainable ecosystems: restoration ecology, ecology conservation and ecosystem rehabilitation
  • Developing sustainable and resilient energy systems
  • Engineering and climate change
  • Engineering for disaster risk reduction
  • Emerging technologies (AI and Big Data) for natural ecosystem
